How many years have you been in business in NYC?
We have been established on Long Island since 1978 (38+ years!), educating children and adults. We opened our first Manhattan location in early September 2016 to the Upper East Side community.
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
My mom opened Dance Workshop in 78’. I was born a decade later and spent my childhood dancing in her studio and soaking up every aspect of her business. She is undoubtedly my inspiration and mentor.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
Dance Workshop is a unique studio with a culture of its own. Our hope is to provide an outlet for creativity, exploration, personal expression and growth for our students. It is our mission to preserve the art of dance, teaching our dancers the value of marrying technique and passion.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
I believe our program gives children and teens a sense of community and belonging in such a big city where it’s easy to feel lost at times. We are a place for kids to call home, seek positivity, inspiration and be embraced for their many gifts and uniqueness.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
For one, we have a wonderful staff who bring a wealth of knowledge and love to what they do. Their professional and personal experiences are used to educate and influence our youth in positive way.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is witnessing progress. I feel triumphant when a dancer succeeds at achieving even the smallest goal. It never goes unnoticed and their victories must be celebrated.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
It’s surely not a secret but Sant Ambroeus is my favorite spot and the perfect start to my day. Sipping cappuccino at the marble bar transports me to my most cherished Italian cities.
How do you benefit mamas?
Moms want to know their children are in a safe and nurturing environment. We strive to ensure Dance Workshop is a warm and inviting space for our students to learn and grow.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
Being told you’ve been a role model for a young girl or teenager is the most rewarding feedback you can receive as a teacher. Dance has been a vehicle for me to instill confidence and self esteem in our youth.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
One of my most esteemed colleagues is Danielle Marie Fusco. She is a dancer and choreographer who inspires me daily to learn more, push harder and fall deeper in love with the art of dance.
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
To give thanks everyday for the many blessings you have been given in the past, present or will receive in the future. Expressing gratitude and exhibiting humility is imperative.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
Our Dance Workshop moms bring their homework to the studio. They’re able to watch their children dance while answering emails or grading papers. Moms are the world’s best multi-taskers!
