How many years have you been in business in NYC?
Nearly 10
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
My initial inspiration was the possibility of supporting science with content I felt I could create. I met a brilliant doctor who was passionate about basketball on the pro athlete level. He felt that there was a better way to train these athletes to dodge surgery at the end of their careers. The scientific evidence was there, but no fitness content existed to support it. I was so inspired by the possibility to heal my own imbalances in myself and others through the insights he brought to light for me.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
My path. My truth. I believe it's my talent, focus, mission, authenticity, and knowledge that sets me apart.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
One of the reasons I can let go of some areas of the business as it grows and I can let others take the wheel is because at the end of the day no one can take me from me. In our lifetime, no one can catch up to my focused dedication for 17 years carving out what I have. Every year, I only get smarter and better at what I do. I'm not concerned with training celebrities, but I am focused on research, content creation, and meaningful relationships with the people I serve.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
I only am there for them with certainty where I know I can be. I know that I can help them help themselves and when anyone becomes more closely connected to themselves, it's a positive impact.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The people's lives I help and the friendships and sisterhoods I have been blessed with by staying true to my work.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
I have really been gravitating back towards the village these days. When I was in college, we would walk from 72nd and Broadway all the way to the first MAC store near Christopher and Gay. I'm finding myself digging that area again.
How do you benefit mamas?
A mother who is stronger in her own physical connection and presence is less likely to get her mommy gut knocked down. I'm a big fan of leaning into the mommy gut!
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
Thanking me for giving them themselves back.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
I feel like Jenni Konner and Lena Dunham launching Lenny Letter is about as empowering as you can get for women. At the end of the day this is what I do. I am also a big fan of Dr. Michelle Hakaka who has published books on pregnancy and the early years. She is really brilliant and takes the entire woman into account in her writing.
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
Words that are meaningful to me are authentic, loyal, honest, transparent, kind, aware, mindful..... The best advice I have ever been given is to slow myself down.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
My new Clear bars are my lunch meal replacement and they allow me to optimize my hours while the kids are in school. When they are home I'm home.
