How many years have you been in business in NYC?
2.5
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
I ended up in a yoga class when a dance rehearsal I was scheduled for got canceled. I thought it would be great "cross-training" for my dance career and that was my sole reason for continuing in the beginning. I had no idea what yoga practice would open my eyes and heart up to!! And I certainly had no idea it would change the course of my life and actually lead to a whole new career! That was over 15 years ago. I have worked in 5 different countries training instructors, running programming and the instructor team for a large gym chain in NYC and now own a thriving studio of my own in Tribeca.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
I would say I am not what most people would classify as a stereotypical "yoga teacher" -- and what I mean by this is -- I think that most students I meet find me extremely real-world and relatable, particularly if they were initially intimidated by yoga or thought it was "not for them."
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
We are extremely focused on one style of practice (Baptiste Yoga) and this practice supports our students to be courageous in their practice and in their lives. The results are tangible, inspiring and life-altering.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
We focus on empowering possibilities on and off the yoga mat through our teaching, workshops, programs, and community. We are a huge YES for supporting the bigger picture for each and every student who walks into The Den.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Interacting with our students and witnessing the growth of a community I could not be prouder to be a part of.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
I don't know how "secret" it is, but I love the rooftop bar and pool at Jimmy (which is on top of The James Hotel downtown) and you can walk to it from our studio.
How do you benefit mamas?
We are a gathering spot for moms to come together -- to have fun, to release stress and frustration and to take care of themselves! We also practice a style of yoga that strengthens moms for every aspect of their lives.
