How many years have you been in business in Hamptons?
As a yoga teacher, 24 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
My teacher asked me if I would lead her small group weekend classes while she was away. And so it began even as I was blissfully unaware of how much more there was to learn and experience. In one of my first yoga classes when I was just 18, I had the gift of falling into a blissful meditation during Savasana. I didn’t really know what that was at the time, but I knew that I liked it and that it was extraordinary and compelling.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
Knowing that a student’s own experiences, inner awakenings and understandings are far more important than who the teacher is
What do you feel gives you longevity in this resort setting with so many options?
Being a curious student myself, still and hopefully always.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
As a guide to re-awakening or strengthening a remembrance of their own innate power, beauty and wisdom.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing a different light in their eyes.
What is your favorite secret Hamptons spot?
The space I find in my yoga practice and the place where I practice.
How do you benefit mamas?
Yoga helps everyone take greater care of the entirety of themselves, mind, body and spirit, so that whatever they love to do and whatever they must do happens from a place of a bit more clarity and peace.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
It was the first time a student said something to the effect that not only did I lead a good class, but that they learned something meaningful as well.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
I respect and continue to learn from way too many to list completely. Let’s just say that those who take the seat of a teacher and do it with love, have my respect and admiration.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
Teach what you love. Honor your highest nature.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
Drink a lot of water! Always stay well hydrated! One of the simplest ways to take great care of yourself. Nothing fogs one’s mind up or slows one’s energy down or makes one more irritable than need be or creates conditions for discomfort and disease than being dehydrated.
