Describe yourself in 3 words...
Mommy. Creative. Determined.
What was your main source of inspiration for Alice and Olivia?
The quest for the perfectly fitted pant! That was back in 2002. The mission and my design sensibility has evolved since then, but I still love an amazing bold color or printed pant!
How do you balance your business and family life?
As any working mother does, the best I can, with amazing help from my parents and caregivers, and with as much humor as possible!
How do you carve out time for yourself and how do you like to spend this time?
I do an hour of ashtanga yoga every morning. It is really important for me to take that time for myself. And it has to be in the morning----either at 5:00 am before the girls wake up or at 7:45 after they go to school…. After 9:00 am I am all business!
Where do you like to shop for your daughters?
I make a lot of their clothing, but in NYC I love my friend Sari’s new store EVERAFTER and on my block is an adorable store called My Little Sunshine. I also love European lines like the tulle dresses from Luna Luna and more retro children’s clothing like Velveteen’s dresses and smocked dresses from Luli and Me and annafie dresses back to doc marten boots or high top sneakers.
What is your favorite family weekend activity around New York?
My girls are really into gymnastics right now! But we also love just going to the parks near our house in Tribeca, stopping at the ice cream truck or the new ring ding bar, shopping, and just hanging with friends. We also love doing dinners with friends at our house on Friday nights….
What is your most memorable family vacation?
We take a trip to Hawaii every December. It has become a great family tradition. And every July we spend a month at our family home in Malibu. It is also such an incredible time spent with west coast friends and family….
What is your best advice for a new mama?
Your happiness is important to your baby’s happiness! Don’t forget to take time for yourself!
What values do you hope to instill in your girls?
Kindness, truthfulness, and the idea that hard work is good for you!
