My research on beauty products includes going to beauty stores and asking dozens of questions and trying recommended products. Beauty is different for everyone, from skincare needs to personal style. This is why I love to try other people’s favorite products and expand past my comfort zone. This allows me to introduce a great find that would work for me personally and have the new information of what might work best for someone else. Hands-down the greatest product that this curious method has led me to is micellar water. I had recognized it as a French staple in pharmacies and I’ve noticed it's in every makeup artist kit. But for some reason I never looked into it.
So what is molecular water?
Micellar water is made up of micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules) suspended in soft water. Simply the micelles are attracted to any foreign substance on the skin, like dirt or makeup, immediately dissolving it without stripping us of all of the benefits our skin naturally provides, like moisture.
While micellar water has been around for over 100 years, it originally gained popular recognition in France. Since there was famously harsh water, women needed to find another way to wash their faces. Interestingly micellar water needs no water at all to do its job, making it the answer for many.
Although micellar water can be used alone, I’ve chosen to incorporate it into my routine and have been very happy with the results. I’m still a soap and water kind of girl, but Bioderma’s Crealine H2O is now my first step to cleansing, breaking down that dirty barrier allowing the rest of my products to do a better job. I’m a strong believer that the cleaner the skin, the better the skin because how can our products work if they can’t get passed the surface? Micellar water is also perfect to for anyone on the go. For traveling where you won’t know the quality of the water or when you want to limit the amount of products you pack, this 3 in one cleanser-toner-moisturizer is perfect. I even love it for a fast pick me up cleanse after the gym or off the beach. And when I need to do a lazy or rushed beauty regimen, my skin never looks compromised by only using the micellar water.
This interesting little product should be in every cabinet all over the world.
