Maximizing the longevity of what remains of our fading summer-looking skin can not be done without hydration. Hydration is a key component in holding on to our sun-kissed look and relaxed glow. With change of temperature, environment and routine, our skin quickly changes due to factors such as water, sleep patterns, and local toxins. The skin is largely made up of water, and has its own natural system to maintain hydration levels and protect against external elements, so when we have lifestyle changes, our moisture level drops and so dose our glow!
Clearly, this is no time to skimp on your moisturizers and oils, especially at night when you are getting your beauty rest, and have the most cellular turn over. Our skin works hard all day long, protecting us from environmental and lifestyle stressors. When we sleep, our skin rests too. While our skin is in this rest phase, it becomes more receptive to products, making it the perfect time to pile on extra products that will boost your hydration. Some evenings, I layer so many oils and creams I look drenched! I might not be "Sleeping Beauty" at that moment, but when I’m awoken, by an evil alarm clock (not Prince Charming), and look in the mirror, I’m so pleased that I want to go ahead and give myself a kiss.
In addition to your creams and oils, a fantastic way to make your skin plump and youthful, is adding hydration to the air while you sleep. Using a humidifier will help prevent drying skin dramatically, as it adds water to the air. I HIGHLY recommend the Vitruvi Stone Defusser. While hydrating your environment, it also defuses essential oils throughout your home.
These awesome oils come in a wide range of scents, that not only smell amazing, but have individual properties to benefit your mood or create the perfect setting for your guests. Their blog also offers great tips on using these oils in different ways, Ylang Ylang defused at night helps for a more peaceful sleep and can be added to the bath for additional relaxation.
I have always had an irrational fear of humidifiers, weary of their leaky tendencies near electrical sockets, combined with its need for water to work, which gets used up quickly, and the germs... so many germs. The Vitruvi defuser automatically turns off when the water is out, and the smart design doesn’t allow for any leakage or condensation on its exterior. This pretty little vessel is small, so it’s super easy to pop out the interior cup, which holds the water. You can give it a quick rinse to prevent a breeding ground for germs. No more awkward containers in the kitchen sink.
In addition to being terrified of humidifiers, I really don’t like bad smells in the home, which is why I don’t allow onion and garlic to be cooked in mine. The oils that can be applied in the defuser are not only beneficial for mind and beauty, but they fill up a room with the most luxurious scents.
I have tried oils in humidifiers in the past and the scents have all been too strong, toxic, or just gross smelling, think car freshener. The Vitruvi oils are airy and refined, think top quality candle, but better since it’s being delivered in through moisture.
Originally I purchased the Vitruvi for my daughter's room, our pre-war apartment gets so dry in the winter that it causes nose bleeds. Not only has this stopped any evening nose bleeds, but some of the scents encourage relaxation, helping her fall asleep faster.
As many kids (and adults) are uncomfortable with pitch black rooms, the base illuminates a soft yellow glow acting as a great night light and giving off some beautiful ambiance. Since getting it for my daughter, I kept stealing it, moving it from room to room, to enjoy its effects, but she got fed up with sharing with me so now I own multiple, filling up the whole apartment with cloud like perfume. Plus, they look so much better than the old traditional bulky plastic ones I couldn’t bare looking at.
