What is your newest business venture and how has being a Mama inspired you to start your own company?
My new business consults companies on public relations strategies, marketing, digital outreach and events, with the goal of increasing visibility, driving sales and building brand awareness. There are so many growing and dynamic companies, designers and entrepreneurs with great ideas, and for a long time, I had thought how exciting it would be to collaborate with a variety of brands. I had the most incredible experience leading public relations for Louis Vuitton for so many years. I traveled the world and worked with the most creative and innovative people in fashion and business. I had the privilege of representing the brand under legendary designers Marc Jacobs and Nicolas Ghesquière. But it was time to venture out on my own.
A major part of my motivation to take the step to create my own business was my kids. With my own business I have the ability to have more control of my schedule and spend more time with them during these precious years. One day shortly after I started my company I walked into my apartment in the middle of the day and my 2 year old daughter squealed and said “I’m so happy to see you Mommy”. My heart melted and I knew everything was right!
What is your mantra?
“Have courage and be kind” It’s from Cinderella and is not only incredibly sweet it really rings true to me in all aspects of life.
What is your favorite part of handling PR and marketing?
PR and Marketing is essentially story telling. I love bringing a brand or product to life through a variety of avenues whether it’s a newspaper, magazine, website, photo shoot, fashion show, experience or event. My favorite part of my new business is working with a variety of clients, meeting these individuals and learning about them, their business model, and the inspiration behind their brands. In order to be the best story teller you need to fully understand the history and passion that goes into each business or product.
Name three women who inspire you.
My mother of course. Being a mom I think back on so many experiences in my childhood that had parallels to what I experience now with my kids and I realize how challenging a job it can be and how good she was at it. She’s been my guiding light as I navigate the crazy journey of motherhood.
My dear friend Chelsea Clinton. I admire how her whole life she has handled herself with dignity, determination and a sincere desire and effort to make the world a better place.
Heather Vandenberghe hired me at Louis Vuitton and has always been an inspiration for me as a working woman and mom.
You have been a busy business woman with Louis Vuitton for 14 years, and are a Mom of 2, how do you carve out “me time?” How do you prefer to spend this time?
Ever since my kids I am not sure what “me time” is! Haha. Seriously it’s challenging to find time but I try to get up extra early as often as I can to do yoga with my trainer. It really relaxes me and helps me start the day. For this summer I have set a goal to read more - I used to love reading books!
What are your favorite kid’s activities in the Hamptons?
Hands down...kids parties and Sunday night family dinners at the Millers!
Sunset bonfires at Mecox Cut
Berry picking at Seven Ponds Orchard
Ice cream at Candy Kitchen in Bridgehampton
What values do you hope to instill in your children?
Courage and compassion (back to my mantra) inner strength, dedication, integrity, respect, gratitude, tolerance and vision.
