When dressing my girls, I tend to search for clothing similar to my own. I have daughters, so naturally we like to dress up and look pretty, particularly for special occasions and holidays. The best one-stop-shop for all children’s ready-to-wear is Posh boutique in Brooklyn, just over the Bridge. I go there before a vacation, and select an entire wardrobe for both of my girls, that I know we will all love. They carry all of the most unique designers from around the world, particularly European collections you cannot find any place else. Posh also provides personal shopping and will send out pieces on consignment if you are too busy to visit the store.
How many years have you been in business in NYC?
Posh has been around for about 11-12 years. That’s a lot of seasons :-)
How did you get your start?
We started when my first baby was born. I always dreamed about sweet simple designs. In New York, it wasn’t common to see French designers in children’s wear. There were mainly super serious Italian clothing, at the time. I knew I had to go to Paris and start representing the best in children’s wear. We definitely can credit ourselves for introducing French chic and European fashion - the way it’s supposed to be done!
What do you feel differentiates you from others?
Over the years, we’ve learned time and time again, be known for your kindness and grace. You're never too important to be nice to people, which is, quite hard at times when dealing with so many people. We work on it daily.
What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the joy a mom has in caring and dressing her child. It's such a special moment to be a part of.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
That’s a tough one. I have so many favorite spots, and so many secret ones... Lately, I love walking on liberty street by the ferries, and my kids love the boats. There is this little wooden boardwalk towards lady liberty that my kids love to scooter on. I also love Williamsburg. The Pier, and, of course, Soho.
How do you benefit mamas?
We try to benefit moms by making Posh a one-stop destination. You're never searching for more after you leave the shop. There is definitely something for everyone. We also do personal shopping, and send it directly to your home.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
The most memorable feedback a client has given me is the kindness and care they receive when stepping into Posh. When I hear a sales girl went the extra mile, it makes me thrilled!
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field.
The Webster is something I’ve taken note of recently with the recent opening of their New York boutique - the selection is impeccable. In children’s wear there is a French shop called Maralex Kids, that have the sweetest and most amazing selection. Same with a Belgium boutique called A KID and Goldfish. They just “have it.“
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
Best advice I’ve gotten is surround yourself with positive people (and stylish ones, for that matter).
Organize, organize, and organize. I get up super early. I try to pack in as much as possible. I’m usually done my to do list and errands by mid day. Also, highly efficient employees helps a lot too. (We’re looking to hire for that matter).
