How your clients refer to you:
Sometimes people come in and call me Knocking On Forty, which is my Instagram handle
2400 Montauk Hwy, Bridgehampton, NY 11932; Instagram: @knockout.beauty
How many years have you been in business in NYC?
We opened Memorial Day weekend.
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
The store started as an Instagram account called Knocking on Forty. I am a now a 39-year-old mom who wants to take care of myself and I love skincare and makeup and I felt like very few people were talking to me and women like me.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
I put a strong emphasis on education and efficacy using as many natural products as possible.
What do you feel gives you longevity in the Hamptons?
There really aren’t that many places to find what we carry. In fact, many of the brands in the shop are exclusively in Knockout Beauty out here.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
I like to talk to women about their concerns and I try to make them feel as beautiful as possible. Women will come in and ask me “What do I need?” My answer will always be “You don’t NEED anything.” Women and girls are all so uniquely beautiful and when they walk in my door I see their beauty, not their flaws. It is not for me to point them out or make them feel self-conscious. My goal is to help calm any insecurities and shine a light on their beauty and to be truthful, that is often easily accomplished with the right products, but really the thing that makes women look and feel beautiful is happiness, so I try to be a source of joy.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Talking to people and seeing the babies that come into the shop with their mamas. My babies are 8 and almost 6, so I get my baby fix in the shop.
What is your favorite secret Hamptons spot?
If I tell you then it won’t be a secret anymore… Having said that I really Cilantro’s on 114 in Sag Harbor.
How do you benefit mamas?
We have a ton of natural and easy to use products. I can help a mom streamline her routine and make it as efficacious and non-toxic as possible.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
Before I opened Knockout Beauty and was just on Instagram posting products I love, images that inspire me, and words that make me laugh or provoke thought a woman direct messaged me that she found strength in my words. Messages like that propel me to keep going.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
My favorite gals in this field are Leilani Bishop and Bethany Mayer of Botanica Bazaar. They are both brilliant and wonderful.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
My mother used to say “You can’t jump in the pool and keep one leg on the side. You will break your leg.” When I jump I dive right in and swim like crazy.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
The better my skin, the faster my routine, so I try to be as diligent as possible and do a little everyday. Regular maintenance goes a long way. If you have tidy brows you look more finished, so regular brow upkeep and brushing them in the AM will immediately lift your face and brighten your eyes. A little illuminator doesn't hurt either. I love the La Bella Figura one in the pot, it gives you that lit from within look. I also love Kosås lipstick in Rosewater on a bare face. it makes you look finished but most people will have no idea you have on lipstick.
