Surf Bazaar (& Botanica Bazaar ;)
How many years have you been in business in NYC?
In Montauk 6 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
As a long time designer and retailer in NYC (I owned 2 stores in Nolita for a decade and designed collections for Bono etc), my friend was opening a hotel in Montauk, a place I had a home in for many years. I thought, what a fun idea to have a permanent vacation shop! And the namesake collection to fill it was just a natural next step.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
I take a more fashion forward approach to beachwear by finding cutting edge swimwear. We discover new brands each season, taking a beachy approach to less traditional “beach” brands
How do you positively impact your clientele?
We give them a fresh perspective on what is both functional and fashionable on and around the beach.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Seeing it all come together every season
What is your favorite secret Hamptons spot?
The beach down from our house which has a secret surf break
How do you benefit mamas?
We carry kids items too, which are notoriously hard to find out east.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
I often hear that we have a selection like no other store people have been in…its not the individual items per se, but the curation of it all
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
Number 808 in Hawaii, The Webster Miami, Love Adorned
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
My mantra is to do “you” and not some version of someone else. Be unique and find your own voice.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
I plan a “route,” meaning I make my appointments and errands to make sure I am not driving all over the Hamptons.
