How many years have you been in business in NYC?
Approximately 2 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
I am a former attorney who had dreadful eating habits. The stress and long hours gave me little energy to prepare healthy meals for myself. In fact, I rarely left my desk. As a result, I lived on nicotine, Dunkin Donuts coffee and swedish fish. Naturally, the toxins I was putting into my body and the pure lack of nutrition wreaked havoc on me both physically and emotionally. After the birth of my son, I wanted a more forgiving career - one where I felt I could help other busy mamas and professionals who struggled the way I once had. In 2013, I became a certified Holistic Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and began coaching clients on clean eating for weight loss and increased energy. I created a program called “6 Weeks to Sleek” where I prepared and delivered clean meals to 10 clients and over the course of the program the average weight loss was 15 pounds. Those clients were really the inspiration for Meals 2 GLO and we have been cooking for clients ever since.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
Everything I create is done with heart. I limit the number of clients I work with each week because I want my meals and the entire service I provide to feel special. I want my clients to feel cared for and supported by me personally. If I accept too many orders each week then my product and my clients will suffer. I cannot have that!. My clients have direct access to me and can contact me by telephone or email with any health concerns or questions they may have. I am their nutritional counselor and personal chef rolled into one. If a friendship develops over the course of our work, even better!
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
I feel that our attention to detail and our true desire to serve our clients is palpable. I created this product and do my very best to serve the clients with so much heart and I think our clients feel that-I certainly hope so. This business has grown so much by word of mouth which makes me feel very proud about what we are creating.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
We provide a service that creates convenience for the busy mama and professional who takes care of everyone but herself. (We feed men, too!) We help them to lose excess weight, reduce inflammation and toxicity in their body, ease the discomfort of digestive disorders and nourish them for increased energy.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I truly enjoy the creative aspect of designing a seasonal menu and preparing meals that clients enjoy. Nothing make me happier than receiving a text message or email from a client who is swooning over one of our dishes or reporting great results from our product, whether it’s weight loss, glowing skin or bounds of energy.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
It’s not a secret but I love the Rose Bar at The Gramercy Hotel-It’s dark and moody and it feels like a hideout!
How do you benefit mamas?
Moms are such special creatures-they nurture these little lives and give everything of themselves to their babes, their spouse or partner, and oftentimes their career. Meals 2 GLO is our way of helping them put their oxygen mask on so that they can be their healthiest and best selves for their loved ones.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
It was a true joy to learn that one of my male clients was able to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure medications (under doctor supervision) after working with me and losing some necessary weight.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
I of course admire Sakara Life. Their watermelon jerky is one of my favorite things to eat and I can’t wait to try some of their other products. I also enjoy the juices from Go Indie fresh-I was excited to see them open a store in Chelsea Market.
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
A friend once told me that the world doesn’t benefit when you play small. Play big and lead with your heart!
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
Planning, planning, planning! For one hour each week, sit down and plan your meals, your workouts and your self care. You will be far more productive if you have a gameplan and less likely to flake if you treat these things the way you would a doctor’s appointment.
