Feyza Kemahlioglu is a young, inspiring and talented woman. She is passionate about creating beautiful glass sculptures, each unique in their shape and color, that add a pop of fun in any room. Whether used as candy jars, jewelry boxes, or filled with floating florals, her sculptural objects are magnificent. She’s expanded her art form to include incredible light fixtures, that truly make a room. I couldn’t get over her combination of glass and metals, in the most beautiful soft colors that gave each room a romantic glow. I am excited to see what Feyza comes up with next, as she’s definitely a woman to watch in interior design.
How many years have you been in business in NYC?
I have been in business in NYC for 3 years.
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
I grew up drawing, making sculptures; glassblowing, and I studied architecture in college. I always knew I wanted to do something on my own, and in 2016, I decided to start my own company specializing in interiors, lighting and home decor products. I have always been inspired by my Turkish heritage, traveling, and art. Every time I go back to Istanbul, I take a few days to walk around historical sites. I designed my first lighting collection inspired by the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul, and it took off from there.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
My inspiration comes from Turkish arts and design, and combined with my contemporary education & perspective, I create a unique design approach. The designs are results of collaboration with expert craftsman to create high-quality, custom and timeless products and spaces.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
Coming home to my husband and just being in the moment.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
I pay great attention to listening to my client's story. Each client is a beginning of a new design journey. I take great care in getting them excited with the process and happy with the finalized designs. Eventually, I think I build great relationships because I like to design pieces that make people happy.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Drawing, making watercolors, then testing out those ideas in the glass studio. I love the production aspect the most.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
Apotheke, an Absinth bar in Chinatown where I met my husband.
How do you benefit mamas?
My Cut Vases are perfect gifts for moms and brides to be! They are perfect for table decor, to put flowers, candy or jewelry in. You can buy them through my website or at Bergdorf Goodman 5th Avenue store.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
So many people have said that they've never seen anything like it before and that is so amazing to hear.
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field.
Katie Stout, Lindsey Adelman, Kelly Wearstler.
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
Love always and dream big.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
I am not a mom yet, but going to a place where they do hair, nails and grooming all at the same time is the best time-saver. In Turkey, all salons do everything, here I've found one place, Maria Bonita Salon and in one hour everything is done.
